Meet inside the Museum Street gates and gain an insight into one of the most popular gardens in York. The gardens contain a wealth of plant life, botanical specimens and wildlife, as well as the spectacular ruins of St Mary’s Abbey and the Roman Multangular Tower. Our knowledgeable guides will show you the highlights of this truly unique garden.

Tours start at 1pm every Sunday and last approximately one hour.

Museum Monkeys: Museum Babies – Space – Fri 14 Feb 2020

Museum Baby (under two years old) Fridays, 10am – 11am

Special baby sessions linked to exhibitions, including songs and sensory activities for babies and their carers. Sessions are a mixture of free flow and adult led activities which all relate to the early years Curriculum. A perfect introduction to museums!

Sessions are now FREE! Museum admission applies. (Free admission for under 5s)

Viking Rune Making – Sat 15 Feb 2020

Dates: Saturday 15 February 2020–Sunday 23 February 2020, All Day
Venue: Yorkshire Museum

The Vikings had their own system of writing called Runes. Join us this half term as we celebrate the Viking Festival with Rune Making. Learn the Runic Alphabet; it’s as easy as A, B, C! Choose your stones and write your name or make a simple message for a friend.

Pick up a hessian drawstring bag on the way out to take them home and keep them safe.

Museum admission applies. £1.50 charge. No need to book.

Viking Voyages – Sat 15 Feb 2020

Dates: Saturday 15 February 2020–Sunday 23 February 2020, All Day
Venue: Yorkshire Museum

Imagine travelling back 1000 years in time to experience Viking life first hand in this interactive storytelling journey. Act out a saga of a perilous voyage to Jorvik wearing Viking costumes and role play setting sail in a longboat for a new life.

Kids Collections Corner: Vikings – Tue 18 Feb 2020

Join us for our new style of Kids Curators Talks. Taking place in a dedicated room, the talk takes the form of participatory involvement including hands on activity or a demonstration. It is led by curatorial and learning members of staff and suitable for 7 – 11 year olds with provisions included for our early years visitors.
