Led workshop adaptations 

We can make adaptions to our led workshops so that they meet the needs of your learners. Currently, we can offer: 

• Pre-visit discussions with a member of our learning team about your group’s SEND/access requirements. 

• Flexible activity timings.  

• Large print resources and magnifiers.  

• Sensory bags.  

• Sensory regulation resources. 

• Audio descriptive resources for our Discover: Prehistoric Yorkshire workshop.

Visual story 

Our downloadable visual story is for anyone who likes to plan and prepare for a visit to a new place to make them feel more comfortable. This resource will guide you through what to expect during your visit to the Yorkshire Museum, including:  

• How to get around the museum. 

• Who you might meet. 

• Our museum facilities. 

• The different galleries and what you can see in them.  

• The lights and sounds of the museum.

Relaxed corner 

A neutral, textured sensory area with cushions, rug, and weighted blanket is available in the Discovery Den, our dedicated learning space.  

The area has a sensory activity box with occupational therapy regulation tools.

School Sensory Bags  

Our sensory bags have been designed to support pupils with sensory needs during their visit to the museum. These are available to borrow from the Rec Room, our dedicated lunch and cloakroom space.  

Each bag contains:  

• Ear defenders 

• Dinosaur soft toy 

• Emotion stones 

• Textured squares 

• Light up cube 

• Magnifying glass 

• Magnifier sheet 

• Stress ball 

• Sunglasses 

• Dinosaur finger puppet set 

• Fidget  

• Torch
