York Museum Garden Tours – Sun 26 May 2019

Meet inside the Museum Street gates and gain an insight into one of the most popular gardens in York. The gardens contain a wealth of plant life, botanical specimens and wildlife, as well as the spectacular ruins of St Mary’s Abbey and the Roman Multangular Tower. Our knowledgeable guides will show you the highlights of this truly unique garden.

Tours start at 1pm every Sunday and last approximately one hour.

Kids Curator’s Talk: Romans – Tue 28 May 2019

Join us as we launch our new style of Kids Curators Talks in a dedicated room led by curatorial and learning staff.

The talk takes the form of participatory involvement including dressing up, hands on activity or a demonstration.

It is suitable for children aged 7 – 11 and their families.

Included in Yorkshire Museum admission. No need to book.

Eboracum Roman Festival 2019 – Fri 31 May 2019

The Legions of Rome return to invade the ancient city of York this summer for the annual Eboracum Roman Festival.

From 31 May – 2 June, Roman Eboracum comes to life in the beautiful York Museum Gardens with a Roman Living History camp, Kids Army, demonstrations and activities for all ages.

Visit the Yorkshire Museum to discover York’s Roman history through some of Britain’s greatest Roman treasures:

  • walk on a genuine Roman mosaic floor
  • see the statue of Mars – the finest example of a Roman statue ever found in Britain
  • marvel at the marble head of Constantine
  • stand at the tombstone of Lucius Duccius Rufinus, Standard Bearer of the Ninth Legion

Special family-friendly activities will take place throughout the museum; see if you measure up for the Roman Army, make mini catapults and more!

On Saturday and Sunday, don’t miss the Roman Parades as the Roman Emperor, six Roman Legions and Roman civilians march through the iconic streets of York.

Activities in the Museum Gardens and the Roman Parades are free. Museum admission applies to activities in the Yorkshire Museum.

Portable Antiquities Scheme Finds Day – Fri 7 Jun 2019

Botanical Drawing and Painting – Sat 8 Jun 2019

Start your journey into Botanical Art drawing and painting through this one day course.

The course will be taught by step by step instruction, demonstration and discussion. Students will receive personalised guidance from a friendly tutor, all within a supportive environment.

Tansy Beetle: The Jewel of York – Tue 11 Jun 2019

A small stretch of the River Ouse at York is the last British stronghold of the attractive tansy beetle.
