York Museums Trust announce the winners of the local schools competition

14 March 2018

York Museums Trust have selected the winners from the schools competition offering the opportunity to ask Sir David Attenborough three questions based on the natural world.

In January, York Museums Trust announced that Sir David Attenborough would be officially opening the brand new major exhibition, Yorkshire’s Jurassic World at the Yorkshire Museum on March 23.

Alongside this, a local schools competition was launched, inviting classes to submit three questions they would like to ask Sir David Attenborough.

From 289 entries, we are pleased to announce the winners: Ralph Butterfield Primary School, Westfield Primary Community School, St Lawrence’s C of E Primary School and York College.

Emma Williams, assistant curator of science and archaeology learning, said:

“We were inundated with truly fantastic questions to ask Sir David Attenborough when he visits the Yorkshire Museum for the opening of Yorkshire’s Jurassic World.

“This is a great opportunity for local schools to meet Sir David Attenborough; a truly inspirational naturalist.

“We would like to thank all those who entered, we had some wonderful entries which made this a very difficult decision but a huge congratulations to the winning schools.”

Sir David Attenborough will visit on Friday March 23, with the exhibition opening to the public on Saturday March 24.

The question and answer discussion will take place in the Tempest Anderson Hall at the Yorkshire Museum.

YMT Card Holders have the chance to win four pairs of tickets for the official opening of the exhibition. The deadline to enter the competition is this Friday (16 March). Visit www.yorkmuseumstrust.org.uk/ymtcard for more details.
