Easter Fun at York Museums Trust

This Easter bring the family to take part in some fantastic events and activities at both York Castle Museum and the Yorkshire Museum.

York Castle Museum

This Easter find out the history behind one of our favourite Easter treats and compete in our egg decorating competition.

Easter Trail

Available every day, 9.30am-5.00pm

Can you follow the special Easter Trail around the museum and solve all the clues to be in with a chance to win a special chocolate egg.

50p per trail.

Normal admission applies.

Create at the Castle!

Available every day  10am-5pm

Easter-themed family arts and crafts activities available. Plus have a go at our Egg and Spoon obstacle course!

Free. Activity included in Museum admission.

Cosy Eggs

Wednesday 1 April and 8 April, 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm

Make an Easter-themed Egg Cosy to take home.

Free. Activity included in Museum admission.

Hot Cross Buns

Daily  10am-4pm – Castle Kitchen

Follow your nose this Easter and see what’s cooking in the Castle Kitchen as we try out and compare Victorian modern recipes for the Easter favourite, Hot Cross Buns.

Free. Activity included in Museum admission.

Egg Decorating Competition

Saturdays 4 April and 11 April, 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm

Join in with our competition to decorate your egg as a Victorian, followed by the chance to roll your egg in the riverside area at 12pm and 3pm.

Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated eggs!

Yorkshire Museum – Medieval Easter

Find out how Easter has been celebrated throughout the ages and take part in our special Medieval egg hunt at the Yorkshire Museum.

Can you find all the hidden eggs in the Museum.

Celebrations in ‘Stained Glass’ -Family Craft Activity

Every day 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm

Join us this holiday as we continue our theme of Fifteenth century celebrations. Drop in and create your own ‘stained glass window,’ an activity for all ages.

All craft materials supplied. Free. Activity included in Museum admission.

Medieval Celebrations

Friday 3 April – Monday 6 April, 11am-4pm

Discover how festivals and holidays were celebrated in the Fifteenth century over a long weekend of special demonstrations and activities including cookery, dancing, tournament training and sword fighting.

Celebrations in 15th Century York

Various dates throughout Easter*

Discover how people celebrated festivals and special occasions, including Easter, during the reign of Richard III. This is a volunteer led activity, with chance to handle museum objects.
