BBC’s ‘Digging for Britain’ Examines Amazing New Archaeological Find at the Yorkshire Museum

26 March 2016

The latest episode of the prime time archaeology programme ‘Digging for Britain‘ features the Yorkshire Museum, whose collection ‘tells the story of the North and the people who settled here’, says Professor Alice Roberts, one of the show’s presenters.

During the programme, (Episode 3 of the fourth series), Professor Roberts examines some of the fascinating finds from the recent archaological excavation at the Early Mesolithic site Star Carr in North Yorkshire.

Chief among the finds were ritual head-dresses and an extremely rare 11,000 year old Mesolithic pendant, which is now on display at the Yorkshire Museum. Made of shale and featuring decorative engravings, the pendant is thought to be the only known example of its kind ever found in the UK.
