Precious Cargo

Art, Drama, Film, Animation, Fashion and Music for 14 to 24-year-olds
The Yorkshire Museum is looking for volunteers aged 14 to 24 to take part in creative activities and events in 2010 and 2011.
Our Precious Cargo Project will be organising creative activities and events during the year inspired by the cosmopolitan city of Roman York, or Eboracum, whose people came from all over the world.
The events will mark the 1800th anniversary of the death of emperor Septimius Severus, who died in York in 211 AD. He was born in Libya, Africa, and lived there for many years before moving to Rome, then later to Britain.
He arrived in York in 208 AD with his Syrian wife Julia Domna, their two sons Caracalla and Geta, and his huge entourage of soldiers and staff.
Our new Roman York gallery celebrates the diversity of the people who lived in the city at that time and contains amazing artefacts and remains which have been discovered by archaeologists in York and the surrounding area.
Details of activities you can sign up for will be coming soon!
